Tess's Tidbits: "Tangled" Movie Night

Last night we did something really special.  Mama let us all stay up and watch Disney's "Tangled" with her!  We've done movie nights in the past, but it's usually when everyone else is asleep.  We have to sneak around and try not to wake anyone.  Because Mama was still up, she could do all of the difficult things for us (like putting the movie in and reaching the remotes).  And she could go check on anyone that woke up and keep them from coming out and discovering us.

Mama's aunt (the one Emma spent Christmas with, and the one Zaara lives with now) let Mama borrow her "Tangled" Blu-ray, since Mama's won't be here until sometime later this week or next week.  All of us dolls got into our jammies and headed out to the living room.  We had to be quiet and find our way in the dark, because Papa was already asleep in the bedroom.  Thankfully, he's a pretty heavy sleeper.

I thought it would be nice to invite Mama's Rapunzel and Eugene fashion dolls from the Disney Store.  It is a movie about them, after all.  And of course, I couldn't invite them without inviting Belle and Robby, since they were standing right there.  I invited Ben, the snobby one, too, but he decided he'd stay with Marguerite and watch over Raoul.

As we were all getting settled in the living room, Maggie saw them and whispered to me, a bit loudly, "Who invited them?"

I looked over at her, trying to be brave.  "I did."  I said it as calmly and confidently as I could.

She turned the other way, a disgusted look on her face.  "Hey Mama, could we maybe have some popcorn or something?" she asked.

Mama shook her head.  "Sorry Maggie, but I'm afraid the sound and smell of popcorn might get the girls out here too.  My oldest is having a hard time going to sleep."

Maggie looked sullen.

"It's okay, Maggie...we don't really need a snack," I said timidly, wishing I could put a smile on her face.  "At least we get to watch a movie."

She made a face.  "Thank you, Pollyanna."

I was hurt.  "I'm just trying to help you have a good time.  This should be a fun night, but you're going to make it miserable for everyone."  I hesitated.  "You...you don't have to watch the movie, you know.  You could always go back and let the rest of us enjoy it."  I turned bright pink.  I couldn't believe I'd said that!

Maggie looked at me incredulously.  I wasn't sure if what I'd said would help or just make her grumpier.  Suddenly, she laughed.  "Wow, Tess, I guess you do have some spunk."  She looked down at her hands.  "I know I've been grouchy.  Just ignore me, okay?  I want you to enjoy yourself."  She looked back up at me fondly.

I'll never understand why Maggie likes me so much.  You'd think I'd be the type of person that would drive her nuts...and I do, a lot!  But I guess there's something about me that she admires, or something.  Who knows.  We've been best friends for 4 years now, and I've completely given up on trying to understand her.  And I guess it goes both ways.  Why do I like Maggie's friendship so much?  She's bossy, stubborn, and loud.  She can be pretty rude.  I guess it's because underneath that prickly exterior is someone who really cares.  I know that if I was ever in trouble, Maggie would stop at nothing to help me.  I think, too, that underneath it all, she's insecure, so she has to sound all gruff and tough.  Yikes, I hope she doesn't read this post!! :}

Mama started the movie, and within moments we were all hooked.  My little sister Hailey was on cloud nine! :)  She was sitting next to her best friend, wearing her favorite pajamas and her "Tangled" necklace, holding her Rapunzel doll, and watching "Tangled".  What more could she want? ;)

Emma was really enjoying the movie too.  We all like "Tangled", but Emma and Hailey are into it the most out of all of us.  Well, I guess maybe Eugene and Rapunzel are pretty into it, too.  You should have seen the way Rapunzel sobbed during Eugene's death scene!

As I looked around, I noticed that Belle and Robby weren't sitting next to each other.  That seemed weird.  I thought they were best buds.  Robby kept stealing glances of Belle when she wasn't looking, which wasn't too hard, since she was totally engulfed in the movie.

I voiced my concern to Maggie, but she just rolled her eyes and told me she had "absolutely no interest in the latest installment of the fashion doll soap opera."  I hid a smile at her persistent annoyance with Mama's fashion dolls and pushed it from my mind.  Maybe I'd talk to Belle later.

When the movie was over, we had fun watching the special features.  We were all a little disappointed by how few selections there were in that department.  What they had to offer was great, though.  We especially loved the countdown of all 50 Disney animated features.  We made it into a contest to see who could guess the most.  I think Emma won (second only to Mama, who of course, got them all right). :)

As we headed back to the bedroom, getting Mama's help to find our places again in the dark, I smiled and thought of our fun evening.  I had a feeling we'd all be dreaming about "Tangled" that night, and our very own "Flynn Riders"...or maybe I should say "Eugene Fitzherberts"! :)

Maggie's Memos: Delay on Katie's Interview

Hey guys, just a quick post to let you know that my interview with Katie will have to wait.  She wasn't feeling well this week (no wonder with all of the stuff that's been going around!), so I couldn't do the interview.  Plus, Mama has been doing a lot of blogging on her blog, so she's been kinda hogging the computer.  Now, everything is all craziness since Mama's littlest daughter has her birthday party tomorrow.

I'm hoping to get the interview up next week.  I'll keep you posted.  In the meantime, here's something fun.  Tess and I were goofing around on the computer today and found this fun website where you can make your own avatars.  We made one for everybody, and thought you might enjoy seeing them:

         Tess                                    Charlie                            Maggie                           Katie

Hailey                                  Emma                 Mama (aka Beast'sbelle)          New Girl

What do you think?  Did we capture a little bit of ourselves and our friends?  I think we could have done a little better on Charlie's hair, but that was about as good as we could get things shade and style-wise.  And to those of you out there who are wondering, no I'm not being mean by labeling our newest member "New Girl".  I called her that because Mama is still deciding on her name.  Can you believe it?  Talk about feeling out of place!!

By the way, thanks to The Green Girls for giving us this idea.  We saw your avatars on your blog and on AGPT and thought it looked like a lot of fun.  I think we even found the same site, 'cause our avatars look a lot like yours. :)

Anyway, hopefully I'll have that interview up for all of you next week.  I'll let you know how things go.

Maggie's Memos: Upcoming Post and 2 New Posts for Belle's Bulletins

Hey guys, Belle wanted me to give a "head's up" to those of you following the sappy saga of the fashion doll set (ick).  She's apparently added 2 new posts to her "Belle's Bulletins" page.  You can find it by clicking the tab at the top of our blog, just under our header.  And you'll have to scroll all the way down to get to the new stuff.

Personally, I don't understand why you people have any interest in reading all of that romantic goop that she shares, as she spills her innermost thoughts and feelings to millions of strangers on the Internet.  But, hey, to each his (or her) own, I guess.  And yes, I realize that I also talk to millions of strangers on the Internet.  I just think what I have to say is a little more enjoyable and a little less sappy.  Okay, moving on now.  Really.

I wanted to let everyone know that my "Breaking News with Maggie" interview with Katie (long overdue, I know...but hey, nobody's perfect!) should be up sometime this week.  So keep your eyes peeled. :)

Also, there's been some sort of rumor that we're getting a new doll.  I'm a little perturbed that Mama keeps doing this to us.  I mean, we already had quite an upset last week when we found out she'd sold Elizabeth/Emily...whatever you want to call her...to some AGPT board member.  Apparently, she's now going to live her life as Diana Barry from "Anne of Green Gables".  Big whoop.  Fine.  Go have fun...just forget about us...YOUR ORIGINAL FAMILY!!!  I've already made up my mind that I'm not going to like the new girl.  I don't like having old family members replaced. :(

Okay, I guess that's enough ranting for now.  We'll keep you guys posted on everything.  In closing, I'll leave you with a lovely, sappy photo from Belle, per her request.  Double ick!!

[Hi everyone, this is Tess.  I just want to apologize on Maggie's behalf.  She was really distressed about losing Elizabeth, especially since Mama didn't really prepare us for it.  And of course, we're all a little nervous about having another new family member.  I'm sure Maggie will be her normal, uh, cheerful, uh...well, you know.  She should be better by the time she posts her interview.  Just bear with her.  She's really very nice, once you get to know her!!]

P.S.  I cannot believe my best friend feels the need to hack my post and apologize for my bad behavior!!!  What a great day! (Can you sense the sarcasm here?)

Tess's Tidbits: Hi! :)

Just thought I'd write a quick post to let you know that we haven't forgotten all of you. :)  Mama and her family have been really sick, so we've been busy taking care of them.  We have some upcoming posts planned...oh, and I think Belle is working on an update for her "Belle's Bulletins" page.  We'll let you when that's up.

Bye for now, but we'll be talking to you soon! :)

Maggie's Memos: Our Surprise

Hi everyone!  As promised by Tess, here is the blog post that you've been waiting for all week.  Thanks for being so patient...we had a few technical difficulties this week. :}

It all started last Monday afternoon.  We were all chillin' in the doll room on Mama's dresser.  Charlie, Katie, Lucy and I usually stay on our own shelves during the day, but today we all felt like socializing and catching up a bit.

Tess and I were discussing ideas for our next blog post.  Emma and Charlie were doing some sisterly chatting, catching up on everything that had been going on since the last time Charlie and I visited from our shelf.  Hailey was telling her cousins Katie and Lucy about how exciting it was that Tangled would be out on DVD and Blu-ray at the end of the month (she's completely obsessed!). :}

At that moment, Mama walked in with something behind her back.  We all turned and gave our various greetings.  Mama returned them, then placed a Safeway grocery bag full of unknown items on the bed behind her.

Of course, we were all curious to know what was in the bag.  Dolls are even more curious than humans.  Even the shy ones like Tess have an almost insatiable curiosity.  Maybe that's why we do so much more than you humans think we do when you're not looking. :)

"What's in the bag, Mama?"  I asked boldly.  Tess gave me an astonished look.  She would never be so direct.  But I firmly believe in getting things out in the open.  I'm not one for beating around the bush.

Mama smiled a little.  I don't know what she found so amusing.  "It's a surprise...for all of you."

Instantly, the room was filled with an almost tangible excitement.  Now all of us were even more curious.  I thought I would explode if she didn't tell us soon!

"I know it's been a rough couple of months," Mama began.  She gave sympathetic looks to Hailey and Tess, who had suffered the worst from all the changes in our doll family.  I reached over and gave Tess's hand a little squeeze.  She squeezed mine back, a quiet thank you shining in her eyes.

"For the past few months," Mama began, "I've been slowly building up a collection."

"Another collection?" I blurted out before I could stop myself.  You've got to understand, Mama has collections coming out her ears!  She's got us, her Breyer horses, her Boyds Bears, an overabundance of Beauty and the Beast dolls and paraphernalia...and let's not forget her CDs and movies.  I couldn't imagine what other thing on earth she would need to collect.  Before long, Papa will need a room of his own...there won't be any room left for him in here!

Mama was looking a little bit annoyed.  I knew it was time to shut my mouth and just listen.  "I have a little something for each of you," she finally continued.  "A collection of surprises."

I felt a little guilty.  Here Mama was, giving us gifts, and I was giving her a hard time.

Mama reached into the bag and pulled something out, which she quickly hid behind her back.  "I'll start with you, Tess," she said with a smile.

"Me?" Tess asked incredulously.  That's so like Tess.  She'd never imagine that anyone would want to choose her first.  I could learn a thing or two about humility from my friend.

Mama handed her...what was it?  It was an American Girl Rebecca doll and book!! Tess gasped with delight.  "My doll!" she cried happily.

Of course, you guys already knew that Tess had decided on Rebecca instead of Samantha.  She had no idea that her doll would be here today, though.  I think she made a great choice.  You should have seen the way her eyes sparkled as she held her.

"Thank you, Mama!" she said softly.

Mama smiled.  "You're welcome.  Now," she said, turning back to the bag.  "Let's see what else I have in here."

Once another mystery item was hidden behind her back, she turned to Hailey.  "This is for you, sweetie.  Your sister wanted you to have it."

Hailey looked up at her with curiosity, but her eyes widened when she saw what it was.  "Ella's Felicity doll and book," she whispered, blinking back tears.  She waited a moment before taking it from Mama.  Her eyes took in every detail, as if she was memorizing every bit of Felicity.  Then she gave the doll a fierce hug.  "Thank you, Mama," she said, wiping her eyes.  "I'll think of Ella every time I play with her."

Mama gave Hailey's shoulder a squeeze before going back to her surprise bag.  Charlie was next.  She was overjoyed at her surprise.

"Kit! And her book, too!" Charlie squealed.  "Thanks, Mama!  She's just the one I wanted."

I have to insert here, even though Charlie's big on being outside, getting dirty, and Pixar characters, she still has a soft spot for dolls.  And she loves Kit because their personalities are similar.

When Emma's turn came next, Mama pulled out an actual American Girl doll box!  "I hope you can all understand," she said apologetically.  "I kept watching for Emma's doll on eBay and Craigslist for weeks and weeks, and she never went down in price.  It was actually cheaper to get her on Amazon.com.  That's why she's the only one with a doll brand-new in the box."

No one seemed to mind at all.  The minute Emma saw her, she lit up with happiness.  "It's Ruthie!" she said excitedly.  We all leaned in as Emma sat down and opened up the box.  Emma held Ruthie up next to her face.  "Does she look like me?" she asked, laughing.  We had all decided that Ruthie was the closest thing to a look-alike doll that Emma had.  Their eyes were different colors, but other than that they looked pretty similar.

It was down to three of us now, and I was getting a little nervous.  Mama had been so sweet to get all of these things for us.  But what if she got a doll for me, too?  I'm really not that into dolls.  You may find that ironic, coming from a doll.  It's the truth, though.  I've never wanted a doll of my own.  I'm perfectly content with my unicorn figurines and my cool jewelry box that looks like the Turkish Delight box in the Narnia stories.  What was I going to say to Mama if she got me a doll, too?  Contrary to popular opinion, I do have a conscience.  I may state my opinions and say it like it is, but when someone is nice to me I know I'm supposed to be nice to them, too.  I didn't want to hurt Mama's feelings, but I couldn't act excited about a doll.

Katie was the next of us to get a treat from Mama's bag.  Katie's not as into American Girl dolls either, but she loves Blythe dolls.  You should have seen the look on her face when Mama handed her a Blythe doll of her own!

"Oh, Mama!  I love her!  And look...she even has a little 40s outfit on!"  Katie played with the trim on Blythe's dress.  "Thank you," she beamed, looking back up at Mama.

"You're welcome," Mama said. "Oh, and I almost forgot, here are her comb and glasses."

"Look how cute she is with her glasses on," Katie laughed.

"Lucy," Mama continued.  "You're next, sweetie."  She handed her a cute little Plum Pudding doll with real hair.

"Thank you, Mama!" Lucy said.  "She even smells like plums.  And she has a brush, too!"  Lucy immediately began brushing through the long, purple locks.

For those of you who remember that Lucy is into Barbies and My Little Ponies, you might like to know she's been branching out in her interests.  Lately, she's been into Disney Princesses and Strawberry Shortcake.  Especially since she doesn't like the new version of My Little Pony.

Well, here it was.  My turn.  I put what I hope was a pleasant, excited expression on my face.

"Now Maggie," Mama began.  "For you, I did something a little different.  This is something that belonged to me back when I was in college.  I thought you might appreciate having it for your collection."  She pulled something out from behind her back.

It was...it was...an action figure?  A Lord of the Rings Aragorn/Strider action figure?  With a sword and everything?!?  How cool is that!!!

"Wow...thanks, Mama!" I almost yelled.  I took him for myself and instantly tried out his sword swishing action (he swings his sword back and forth when you squeeze his legs together).

Now, I'll be the first to state up front that I prefer the books over the movies.  But hey, this guy is pretty cool!  I'm not going to complain.  And it isn't a doll!  Yay!  I guess I should have known that Mama would know me better than that.

Mama was watching me, a mischievous gleam in her eye.  "Are you sure you like him?  Because I'm pretty sure I could scrounge up another doll somewhere..."

"This is perfect," I said a little too quickly.

Everybody started laughing.  I joined in, too.  How could I help it?

"Come on, everyone," Mama said.  "I want to get some pictures of you with your new things."

What followed was a fun photo shoot.  I've included some of the best pics here.  That Mama is full of surprises!  She sure is good to us...even if she does like to change our family right and left.  I guess I can forgive her...maybe. ;)

Our first group shot.  It was just a little bit crowded this way, so Mama decided to try a new pose.

First, she got a shot of all of the "big girls". :)

This way, we all fit a little better.  It was still a bit of a squeeze getting us all in the shot, though.

Yay!! Here I am with my awesome Aragorn figure.  He's one of my favorite characters in the books.  The others are Faramir, Legolas, Eowyn and Arwen. :)

A close-up.  Don't mess with this guy!

I kinda hit the jackpot.  After everyone got their gifts, Mama took me aside.  It seems that when Mama went to get my Aragorn, her Dad gave her two boxed Lord of the Rings actions figures that had just been sitting in his garage...and Mama said I could have them, too!

This is the first guy:  Treebeard, the Ent.  I liked his character a LOT better in the books than in the movie, but he's still pretty cool looking.  He and Aragorn are my jumbo action figures.

This was my next surprise:  a Frodo action figure just the right size for me!!

The paint job is incredibly detailed for how small he is.  I love it!

Here are the 4 sisters (well, 2 pairs of 2 sisters) playing with their dolls.

Hailey with Felicity

Charlie with Kit

Emma with Ruthie

Tess with Rebecca

Katie and Lucy with their goodies.  Katie is a little old to play with dolls (well, so are Tess and Emma for that matter, but they don't care...they must be like Mama!).  She always makes time to play with her sister, though.  She's pretty cool that way.

Katie with Blythe

Lucy with Plum Pudding

And as a last, parting shot...I thought it was hilarious that Charlie wasted no time in finding Kit a Buzz Lightyear of her very own! :)
